Hello friend,
Just a quick update before the whirlwind of the weekend hits—I'll be tabling at PopConYXE (formerly known as SaskExpo Saskatoon) this Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4, and I hope to see lots of your friendly faces there.
Show hours are:
Saturday: 10am–6pm
Sunday: 10am–5pm
Location:
Prairieland Park
503 Ruth St W, Saskatoon, SK
I’ll be at my table all weekend (save for the occasional bathroom break), selling live portraits—drawing folks as heroes, villains, princesses, or even just as themselves. It’s always one of the highlights of the con for me, and I love seeing what people come up with.
I’ll also have all my comics on hand, including the debut of Volume 3 of my webcomic collection, Don't Know (Maybe So).
For those unfamiliar, Don't Know (Maybe So) is a non-narrative gag comic strip I write and draw, where I lovingly satirize the romance genre—taking poses and phrases from old comics and making something new, strange, and (hopefully) funny from them. The print version has extra jokes not seen online, so it’s an extra incentive, even if you read it online.
Also available: a very limited number of copies of my latest graphic novel, Does Your Mother Know. If you didn’t pick it up on Amazon, this is a great chance to grab one directly from me—but don’t wait too long, as stock is genuinely low.
And my classic memoir short story Waiting for Wednesday will also be available for sale.
Unlike previous years, I’m not hosting any panels this time around (as of this writing, anyway), so I’ll be at my table for the full duration of the show. If you've been meaning to come say hi, get a sketch, or pick up a book, this is the perfect time.
In the lead-up to this year’s event, I was part of a newly formed advisory committee with some of Saskatoon's most engaged creators and organizers—including folks like Mike Fisher of Regina Expo—working with the Prairieland team to help shape the future of the show. It’s been encouraging to see how much care and effort is going into making PopConYXE stronger, and I believe the changes will be felt right away.
This committee is expected to keep running beyond this weekend, and my hope is that, even with the new name, PopConYXE grows into something even bigger than it’s been before. The team is invested, and that makes all the difference.
If you’ve drifted away from conventions in the past few years, I think this is the one to come back for. The guest lineup alone makes it worth it:
Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil, True Blood)
Kevin Sussman (Big Bang Theory)
Robert Patrick (Terminator 2, Reacher), in a panel hosted by my pal Craig Silliphant
Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Longmire)
...and more
It’s shaping up to be a great weekend. I’ll be there—and I’d love for you to come by and be part of it too.
See you at the show!
Thanks for reading, I love you
